The 1968 American iconic thriller was directed by Peter Yates and co-produced by McQueen's Solar Productions company, the film was a critical and box-office smash, later winning the Academy Award for Best Film Editing (Frank P. Keller).
The Car Chase At the time of the film's release, the car chase scene generated prodigious excitement. Emanuel Levy wrote, "Bullitt contains one of the most exciting car chases in film history, a sequence that revolutionised Hollywood's standards." The director called for maximum speeds of 75–80 miles per hour, but the cars (including the chase cars filming) at times reached speeds of over 110 miles per hour. The only remaining Ford Mustang was found in 2017 in a Mexican junk yard. The iconic car driven by Steve McQueen’s titular crack-detective Frank Bullitt was long regarded as the one that got away. Hollywood legend had long held it was junked soon after filming wrapped, but multiple overlays of the ‘Stang’s iconic Highland Green paint job suggest it lived a few more lives before winding up at the yard. Great call - music score is FAB, I like the fact that there's a green VW Beetle that keeps appearing at the start of the chase....
